I’ve been a real estate agent in St. Albert for a long time, and in that time I’ve come to know this community pretty thoroughly. There’s so much to love about this area, and people who are looking to buy homes in St. Albert want to know before anything else, what kinds of art, culture and entertainment amenities are available. There’s good news; this town has a wide variety of things to do, see and enjoy. Read about just a few of the many fun things to do around town that make St. Albert real estate a great purchase, and the town a great place to live.
The Art Gallery of St. Albert
The Art Gallery of St. Albert is a place you can go to enjoy community exhibits, craft and art shows, take classes, enjoy visual art programs, and soak in local culture. The gallery has classes and programs for all ages, and it’s located in the historic and gorgeous Banque d’Hochelaga building.
St. Albert Grain Elevator Park
In the early 20th Century, Canada had a booming trade in grain, and the St. Albert Grain Elevator Park celebrates the heyday of those golden years. This park contains two historic grain elevators, the 1906 Brackman Ker Elevator and the 1929 Alberta Wheat Pool Elevator. It allows you to experience what it was like to live and work in authentic prairie occupations. Guided tours are available, and while you’re at it, you can check out the 1920s-era Train Station, where you can even learn Morse Code!
St. Albert Botanic Park
The Botanic Park is a great place to go for gardeners and those who love flowers and plant life. It’s full of roses, several species of lilies, lilacs, peonies and more, all spread across five gorgeous acres. It’s staffed by two employees in the summer, but is otherwise maintained entirely by volunteer labor. Buy something from the gift shop to support the organization!
Entertainment and Nightlife
If contemporary entertainment and nightlife is more your style, there are plenty of entertainment and shopping venues in the city as well. Check out the Arden Theatre for live entertainment, the Century Casino for gaming tables, live shows and great food and drink, the Enjoy Centre for greenhouses, wellness-shops and other eco-friendly events, or the Perron District for fine dining and great shopping.
Festivals and Community Events
There are also tons of local exhibits and community festivals to enjoy in and around the area. Check out the Northern Alberta International Children’s Festival, well into its third decade. Hit the wildly fun family entertainment at the Kinsmen Rainmaker Rodeo and Exhibition, enjoy the Art Walk downtown the first Thursday of every month all summer, or check out the annual Seven Music Fest in July!
